Photo with Coffee Project in Guatemala
2018 Student Media Grant Program
Maryanna Nascimento, a student from Brazil, conducted photography workshops in schools and vulnerable neighborhoods in Guatemala so that children could tell their own stories. Kids used handcrafted cameras and caffenol – a blend of coffee, sodium carbonate and vitamin C to turn negatives into images!
In her project, Maryanna achieved the following goals: a) documented the reality of children living in precarious areas of Guatemala and their relationship with photography; b) strengthened their sociocultural identities and c) gave them the opportunity to see their situation through art.
